GHOST OF TOM (2017)

The “Ghost of Tom” is an American Folk song from the early 1900s. It tells us about a skeleton ghost, and bemoans how cold it would be without any skin. I enjoy teaching this song to Intermediate Elementary students around Halloween and pairing with a simple ghost story, which became the inspiration for this arrangement.

Ghost of Tom (2017) is a big band arrangement of the American folk song by the same name. In keeping with the folk song idiom, the piece is fairly repetitive with brief sections of singing and a short round. This piece was composed with a High School or Junior College Jazz Band in mind. Recording courtesy of the University of North Texas 7 O'Clock Lab Band.
